TOEIC Part 5 – Incomplete Sentences là 30 câu trắc nghiệm điền từ vào chỗ trống, kiểm tra ngữ pháp và từ vựng. Đây là phần “kéo điểm” quan trọng cho phần Reading – làm tốt Part 5 = thời gian cho Part 6-7 dồi dào. Bài này tổng hợp 200 câu hỏi mẫu + cách làm hiệu quả.

I. Cấu trúc Part 5

  • Số câu: 30 câu
  • Thời gian khuyến nghị: 10-12 phút (~20-25 giây/câu)
  • Hình thức: Đọc câu có chỗ trống – chọn 1 trong 4 đáp án
  • Nội dung: ngữ pháp (60%) + từ vựng (40%)

II. 8 dạng câu hỏi phổ biến

1. Word Form (Loại từ) – 25%

Chọn dạng từ phù hợp: danh từ, động từ, tính từ, trạng từ.

Câu mẫu: The manager gave a __________ presentation.

(A) succeed (verb) (B) successful (adj) ✓ (C) success (noun) (D) successfully (adv)

Giải thích: Sau “a” và trước “presentation” (noun) cần tính từ.

Quy tắc nhận biết loại từ:

  • Noun: sau a/an/the, this/that, adj; trước verb; làm chủ ngữ/tân ngữ.
  • Verb: sau chủ ngữ; chia thì.
  • Adjective: trước noun; sau be/become/seem/look/feel.
  • Adverb: trước/sau verb; trước adjective/adverb khác.

2. Verb Tense / Form (Thì & dạng động từ) – 15%

Câu mẫu: By the time we arrived, the meeting __________ already started.

(A) has (B) had ✓ (C) was (D) is

Past Perfect cho hành động xảy ra trước hành động khác trong quá khứ.

Quy tắc chính:

  • Time clause (when, after, before, by the time) + Past Simple → Past Perfect
  • “every day”, “usually” → Present Simple
  • “now”, “right now”, “at the moment” → Present Continuous
  • “yesterday”, “ago”, “last week” → Past Simple
  • “since”, “for”, “already”, “yet” → Present Perfect
  • “by + future time”, “in the future” → Future

3. Pronouns (Đại từ) – 10%

Câu mẫu: The employees discussed __________ concerns with the manager.

4. Prepositions (Giới từ) – 12%

Giới từ thời gian:

  • at + giờ, thời điểm cụ thể: at 5 PM, at noon, at midnight
  • on + ngày, thứ: on Monday, on May 5, on weekends
  • in + tháng, năm, mùa, buổi: in May, in 2026, in summer, in the morning
  • for + khoảng thời gian: for 2 hours, for a week
  • since + mốc thời gian: since 2020, since Monday
  • during + sự kiện/khoảng thời gian: during the meeting
  • by + deadline: by Friday
  • until/till + thời điểm kết thúc: until 6 PM

Giới từ địa điểm:

  • at + địa điểm cụ thể: at the office, at home
  • in + bên trong: in the office, in the box, in Vietnam
  • on + bề mặt: on the desk, on the wall, on the street

5. Conjunctions (Liên từ) – 10%

6. Subject-Verb Agreement (Chủ ngữ – động từ) – 5%

“along with” không ảnh hưởng chủ ngữ → “manager” số ít → “was”.

Quy tắc:

  • “along with / together with / as well as / accompanied by” KHÔNG ảnh hưởng chủ ngữ.
  • “There + be” → động từ chia theo chủ ngữ thật sau be.
  • “Each / Every / One of / The number of” + N → số ít.
  • “Many / A number of / Several” + N → số nhiều.

7. Word Choice (Chọn từ vựng) – 15%

Câu mẫu: The new policy will __________ effect on January 1st.

“Take effect” – thành ngữ “có hiệu lực”.

Collocations TOEIC hay gặp:

  • make a decision, take action, do business, give a presentation
  • meet expectations, reach a conclusion, achieve a goal
  • cut costs, raise concerns, address an issue, implement a policy
  • conduct research, deliver a speech, attend a meeting

8. Comparison (So sánh) – 5%

Câu mẫu: This year’s revenue is __________ than last year’s.

Quy tắc:

  • So sánh hơn: adj + -er / more + adj + than
  • So sánh nhất: the + adj + -est / the most + adj
  • Bất quy tắc: good→better→best, bad→worse→worst, far→farther→farthest
  • “as adj as”: bằng nhau

9. Relative Clauses (Mệnh đề quan hệ) – 3%

Câu mẫu: The employee __________ won the award is from marketing.

IV. Chiến lược làm bài Part 5

Step 1: Đọc đáp án trước

Nhìn 4 đáp án để biết đây là dạng gì:

  • 4 dạng cùng từ (succeed, success, successful, successfully) → word form
  • 4 thì khác nhau → verb tense
  • 4 giới từ → preposition
  • 4 từ khác nhau hoàn toàn → word choice

Step 2: Đọc câu, xác định vị trí cần điền

Chỉ cần đọc trước & sau chỗ trống là đủ với 50% câu hỏi.

Step 3: Áp dụng quy tắc

Word form → kiểm tra từ trước/sau. Tense → tìm time marker.

Step 4: Chọn nhanh, không lưỡng lự

Mỗi câu 20-25 giây. Không biết → đoán B hoặc C (xác suất cao nhất).

V. Mẹo tăng tốc

  1. Đọc câu trong vòng 5-10 giây, không cần hiểu nghĩa hoàn toàn.
  2. Xác định loại câu hỏi qua 4 đáp án – giúp đi đúng hướng.
  3. Học thuộc collocations và idioms TOEIC – quyết định nhanh word choice.
  4. Quen các signal words: due to, despite, although, by, until…
  5. Không quay lại sửa: đáp án đầu thường đúng.

VI. Mục tiêu điểm số

  • TOEIC 700+: 22+/30 câu Part 5.
  • TOEIC 800+: 26+/30 câu.
  • TOEIC 900+: 28+/30 câu.

Kết luận

Part 5 là cơ hội ăn điểm với nội dung ngữ pháp + từ vựng. Nắm vững 8 dạng câu hỏi, luyện thuộc collocations và signal words. Mục tiêu hoàn thành 30 câu trong 10-12 phút để dồn thời gian cho Part 7. Luyện đều đặn 200 câu/tuần trong 1 tháng sẽ giúp bạn đạt 25+/30.
